Amirius Clinton, a youngster from Chicago’s South side that goes by the name of Dj Ace, is originally from the South Side of Chicago, and an alumni of Simeon High school, and Beasley Academic Center. Grew up using music as an outlet, and in the midst of all the negativity, crime, violence, and modern warfare, Ace turned to Dj’ing and has been on the rise ever since. Having a family who is very musically orientated, played a big role in his life, with a mother who listened to almost everything from dusties, to r&b, hip hop, and even the blues, and a father that’s also a rapper when he wasn’t working his two jobs were pivotal in his upbringing. Coming from the south side of Chicago, Amirius was faced with sometimes uncomfortable circumstances, which created a drive in him to do whatever was needed in order to get out of the crazy situations which were presented to him. By the age of 13, Amirius moved to Chicago’s South Suburbs where he was introduced to “mixing” on the radio on those sometimes long rides home, and also on channel 19. The first and favorite Dj of his are Dj Slugo, Dj Pharris It just seemed natural and Amirius always caught himself vibing to the music when he saw a Dj in action.
Although the introduction and familiarity to mixing was at an early age, he didn’t get his first mixer until his junior year in high school. It was a Numark idj3. It was very convenient for him back in those days making mixes and mix tapes for friends at Simeon. Now Amirius is a sophomore at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois, and also a college representative for Def Jam, so the foundation work that was put in is definitely prospering. Ace has countless parties, events, and awards as a dj under his belt, and continmues to strive forward and yearn for more. It’s only the beginning for Ace, and is more than happy to be a member of the Block Club Dj’s.
